Will the Police find my Dad?

Hi guys,

So on a somber note, my dad passed away when I was 4 due to a car crash. I have no memory of him and only snippets that I don’t even know are real. Whenever I talk to my mum she brushes the topic aside (it’s her way of dealing with grief) and leaves all my questions unanswered. I was wondering if I could go to the police station and ask about him and how he died and if they have any record of him. Do you know if I can do that? What should I do? Thanks guys!

I think it’s definitely worth a shot. Mabye before you go to the police tell your mum that you really would like to now more about your dad. You deserve to know how he died and what kind of man he was, seeing as you don’t remember him and that he is your oen father. The best way to find out what a person is like when they’re gone is by asking the prople who where the closest to him. Hope this helped and good luck finding out what your father was like!!!

    Hi Alexandra,

Losing someone dear to us is often one of the most difficult things we have to face. Everyone deals with it in their own way, so it may be too painful for your mum to talk about it.

You’ll receive more information about your dad from someone who knew him personally. Even try talking to your mum again & let her know that learning more about him is something that is really important to you. If she still refuses to talk then maybe try asking your grandparents or another loved one.

Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636) is a great organisation that offers support & information about dealing with grief.
