Could My Weight Be The Reason I Haven’t Got My Period?

Hey Gemmah! I’m 14 and I have a question. So I am about 5’5-5’6 and I weigh about 47 kgs. I have not weighed myself in a while though, because my scales are broken but last time I did was a while ago so I may have put on a bit of weight, but I’m not sure if I have or not. Anyway I definitely don’t weigh over 50 kgs. Is this a normal weight for my height and age? I have not got my period but I’ve been in puberty for about 4 years, and I’ve had discharge for over a year, so could my weight be part of the reason why I haven’t gotten it? My build is naturally slim, but I don’t know if I’m underweight even though I shouldn’t be because I eat properly and exercise and I do everything I’m supposed to. I think it’s just my body type but I wondered if it is a reason why I haven’t gotten my period. Thanks x

Hi there!

First periods are definitely a bit of a waiting game, but your period will come when the time is right for your body!

For most, a first period happens around the ages of 12 & 14, but it can occur anytime between 9 & 17. All you can do is be prepared. 💪🏼 Our no. 1 tip is to carry some Libra tampons and pads with you so you’re ALWAYS ready if it does decide to come.

Our bodies are totally unique! While being underweight or overweight can influence our period, it doesn’t mean that’s the reason you haven’t had your period yet. If you’re concerned about anything at all, it’s best to have a chat with your GP. They’ll be able to give you some friendly advice!
